Emotions on Monday will be high. After more than 40 years, Candlestick Park is closing down. San Francisco (10-4) hopes to walk away from their final game at Candlestick Park with a win and, depending on the outcomes from Sunday, a playoff berth.
"There will be tremendous memories from everybody that's ever played there," 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters, via ESPN. "That's why it's important for us not to screw it up and make sure we get this win this (Monday)."
San Francisco turned around its early-season struggles and now looks like the second-best team in the NFC. Running back Frank Gore has produced on the ground with 1,017 yards and eight touchdowns, and the return of receiver Michael Crabtree has given quarterback Colin Kaepernick another weapon on offense.
Crabtree retuned from the Achilles tear he suffered over the summer on Dec. 1 against St. Louis. In the three games he's played in this season, he has 11 receptions on 18 targets for 153 yards and one touchdown.
While his numbers aren't awe-inspiring, the presence of the fifth-year pro on the field takes pressure off other receivers, and his ability to stretch the field makes defenses play the middle more honestly.
Atlanta (4-10), meanwhile, isn't the same team the 49ers faced last year in the NFC championship. Despite not making the playoffs for the first time since 2009, the Falcons have continued to battle and have won two of their last three games.
