In a recent report by EW, it was reported that HBO network is prepared to go along with the plan of its showrunners, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, to end the popular series "Game of Thrones" with its eighth season.
At Television Critics Association's press tour, Casey Bloys said "Yes, they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do." He added, "Believe me, as the new [programming executive] coming in, if I could get them to do more. I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show."
This is not the first time that season 8 has been thought to be the last one. However, it is definitely the first time some one has officially supported the claim. HBO explained that the reason it took too long to make it official was because the network tried to convince the showrunners to extend the show up to 10 seasons. However, the showrunners insisted that that they only want to do the "best version of the story."
However, the good news is that Bloys does not exclude the likelihood of a spin-off. "We've talked about it," Bloys said. "It's something I'm not opposed to, but of course it has to make sense creatively. I'm not sure that [Benioff and Weiss] could really wrap their heads around it when they're just about to start production [on season 7]." But, that also doesn't mean that they are certain about the spin-off to happen.
