Anne Curry 'Tortured' By Today Show Staff During Last Months, Leaving 'Feels Like I Died'

Anne Curry's emotional leave from NBC's "Today" seems to have been painful as it looked on TV. New York Times reporter Brain Steller reveals her ordeal in his new book "Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV."

The book includes juicy details that shed new lights on Curry's state of mind during her final months. It says the "Today" show runs like a boys club along with Matt Lauer developing a "growing indifference" to Curry and a "general meanness on set."

Stelter writes that Curry was "overwhelmed by condolences" from fans after her tearful goodbye and apparently told colleagues: "It feels like I died and I've seen my own wake."

Also that "Todays" executive producer Jim Bell creating a blooper reels of Curry's biggest on-air gaffes, though he denies the accusation.

According to the book Curry was given a bad office location and even the security staff had made jokes at her expense.

NBC blindsided Curry after she left by asking her to guest host "Today" with her replacement Savannah Guthrie, on location in the wake of the movie theater shootings in Aurora, Colorado. She didn't discover the plan until her plane landed in Colorado and filled only a single four-minute segment. "One staff member was told to look into booking Curry and Guthrie on separate flights home," Stelter writes.

He continued, "On particularly bad days 'Good Morning America' beat 'Today' by a million viewers. Some of this was attributed to Curry's fans exacting revenge."

As "Good Morning America" continues to battle with "Today" show and fans seemingly upset about the back stabs and behind the scene antics, perhaps it's time "Today" show staff turns against the rest of the shows staff.
