"Ocean's Eleven" is going to get a reboot with an all-female cast. Titled "Ocean's Eight," the movie will have a stellar ensemble cast featuring Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock. Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Awkwafina, Helena Bonham Carter and Mindy Kaling are also on board as talks are in the last stage.
According to reports, Warner Bros. has confirmed the filming schedule for "Ocean's Eight" and it is to start from October in New York and stars from the original trilogy would be making cameo appearances too. Gary Ross will be directing the flick and Village Roadshow Pictures is co-producing it with Warner Bros.
Ross and Steven Soderbergh (director of the trilogy) had been planning the film with Warner Bros. creative development President Greg Silverman for long and initially, it also included Jerry Weintraub, the producer of the original movie. However, he died last summer and now Susan Ekins and Jesse Ehrman will be overseeing the production with Silverman.
Well, the all-female cast is definitely an exciting development and given the involvement of the prolific actresses, it is surely going to be a treat but some are not quite happy. Reports suggest that it would have been better had Warner Bros come up with an original story for the all-female cast. Moreover, an original script is the need of the hour for the female actors in order to produce classics.
Nevertheless, audiences will flock to the theater when the reboot releases as the franchise enjoy strong staying power even after 15 years.
It is worth mentioning here that "Ocean's Eleven" was a major success at the box office and collected altogether $1.12 billion worldwide. Based on the theme of casino heist, the 2001comedy had stars like George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, Andy García, and Julia Roberts. It was followed by sequels "Ocean's Twelve" in 2004 and "Ocean's Thirteen" in 2007.
