2013 was a big year for the gadget industry. It's no secret that companies like Google, Apple and Samsung are always looking to expand and develop the next big innovation that changes the way people look at technology. With so many people making an attempt at making the best new life-changing gadget this year, it's time to look back at which one made the best impact. Below is HNGN's list for the top 5 gadgets that have the best change to change the way we live from 2013.

5) iPhone 5C: Admittedly this device was lack-luster when Apple unveiled it back in June. However, the plastic backed iPhone 5C makes out list because of what it means for the future of cell-phones from Apple. What the company has done is promise a new "C" line of  iPhones with the unveiling of every new concept device for its flagship model. Previously people only had the option to be a generation out-of-date if they couldn't afford the newest toy from Apple. Now the company has offered a revamped version of its predecessor every year. This is an entirely new track for iPhone fans to ride. It's not exactly the budget variant that people were expecting, but it's here now and what matters is what consumers do with it.

4) Galaxy Gear Smartwatch: With smartphones getting roughly as good as they'll get in terms of innovation for a while, Samsung led the charge for what has been rumored to be the next innovation in the personal tech industry with the unveiling of its smartwatch. This device can't do too much that your smartphone can't but it's the first viable foray into the world of wearable technology that's actually been made available for purchase. With Apple rumored to be developing an iWatch for 2014, and the Google Glass on its way as well, it looks like wearable technology will be inescapable and the Galaxy Gear has the ability to call itself the first.

3) Google Glass: This device makes our list, even though it's not even been released yet. Despite having only a happy few thousand beta testers, that hasn't stopped this revolutionary device from Google from making headlines all year long. The Glass has been given a speaker, a traffic ticket and caused people to be kicked out of bars. Porn applications have been developed and banned and prescription lenses have been added to the fold as well. The Google Glass can turn the world we live in into an augmented reality with photos and updates and, if it catches on, will be the future of technology and might even replace the smartphone. With its potential alone, the Google Glass has made its way to the 2013 year-in-review list.

2) Xbox One/PlayStation 4: We could spend all day talking about which next-gen console is better, and believe me, we have. However, this is list is not meant to be the best gadgets but rather the most influential. These next-gen consoles will likely be around for the better part of a decade and 2013 saw the world draw its lines in the sand in terms of whether or not they'd be hitching their ride to Sony or Microsoft. Each console offers next-level graphics and games as well as a slew of entertainment and social features. Not only were they both two of the most sought after gifts this holiday season, they'll continue to be a main staple in the tech industry for many years to come.

1) Chromecast: A lot of the other contenders on this list sought to make sure that media and entertainment in the living room becomes easier to use than ever before. However, none have accomplished this in more of a revolutionary way than the Chromecast.

It allows users to plug the small dongle-sized device into their TV's HDMI port and then stream their content or local files via a Google Chrome web browser or one of the device's ever expanding applications to get your content on your big screen via a WiFi connection. No, the Chromecast doesn't do this better than some of its competitors. However, it offers its services and features to more people with its low $35 price tag. This is Google's way of putting the future of entertainment in the hands of many rather than just the happy few.
