Boston Bombing Suspect Dzhozkar Tsarnaev Arrested Alive, Hiding Out in a Boat

Following a nearly 24-hour massive manhunt for the suspect connected to the Boston Marathon bombing, suspect Dzhozkar Tsarnaev was taken into custody alive Friday evening following a standoff with police.

WCVB TV reports that the suspect has been taken to Mount Auburn Hospital. Chuck Todd of NBC News reports that the President has been informed of the arrest.

Earlier this evening at around 7:00 p.m., police approached a boat that was parked in the backyard of a nearby house. According to the report, the house was located a few blocks outside of the Watertown lockdown area, and was not part of the police sweep that took place during the day. The owner of the boat said he noticed something peculiar. The boat had a ladder perched nearby which was normally not there and when he went to inspect the boat he noticed blood and a body inside and called police.

19-year-old Dzhozkar Tsarnaey was found inside the boat and is thought to have been there for at least a day. Police officials were cautious during the approach as he was considered dangerous and may have had explosive devices on the boat with him.

Police set up a perimeter and approached cautiously with the hope of taking him alive. Police threw a series of flashbangs into the boat, and eventually called in a hostage negotiator. However, about two hours after the standoff began, the wounded suspect was taken into custody, alive and conscious. He was placed in ambulance and taken to a local hospital.
