It's official. Apple will not release a third 'Pro' variant of iPhone 7 that was originally rumored to launch with dual camera setup and this year's phone will be called iPhone 7 without an 'S' or 'SE' in the name.
Recent reports have confidently claimed Apple decided to hold back the much speculated iPhone 7 Pro, which was reportedly positioned as a limited stock premium option with dual-camera setup, if Apple's camera supplier could not meet the demand; the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus was a fall back option with single lens camera. It now transpires Apple has sufficient supply of dual-lens cameras and has dropped the 'Pro' moniker.
The Pro variant was also rumored to feature a 5.8-inch display, additional RAM, 256 GB storage and Smart Connector. Apple planned to charge a premium for the iPhone 7 Pro.
Confirmation of abandoning of Pro variant also comes from Russia's Eurasian Commission; the commission listed only two iPhone models as part of Apple's trademark filings. While the commission has not named those devices, it can be assumed these phones do not include 'Pro' variant.
All rumors have now been rested with the latest reports as Apple gears up for iPhone 7 launch on September 7. The event is scheduled at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.
Expect few surprises as nearly all of iPhone 7 specifications have been confirmed through consistent leaks. An A10 chipset, improved graphics processing, more RAM in the larger 'Plus' variant with dual lens camera, improved single lens camera on 4.7-inch variant, rounded antenna lines and uncanny resemblance to iPhone 6S. The iPhone 7 is expected to be introduced at iPhone 6S pricing.
Prominent changes made to this year's iPhone are absence of headphone jack and an integrated capacitive home button. iPhone 7 is also expected to be water resistant. Major overhauls including bezel-less edge to edge display have been reserved for iPhone 8.
