Yahoo Shuts Down Deals Coupon Service

Yahoo has announced on Friday that the company will no longer provide coupon service Deals and "Yahooligans" which provides online content for children between the ages of 4 and 12.

"Today, we are shutting down a few more products," said Jay Rossiter, the Yahoo platforms executive vice president on the blog post.

"By making tough decisions like these, we can focus our energy on building beautiful products for you like the two we introduced this week -- Yahoo! Mail for iPad and Android tablets and Yahoo! Weather for iPhone." Rossiter added.

Yahoo Deals will be closed by end of April. Other services that will shut down by end of this month includes Yahoo Kids Web guide and SMS Alerts.

"We realize that change is hard, but by making tough decisions like these we can focus our energy on building beautiful products for you like the two we introduced this week - Yahoo! Mail for iPad and Android tablets and Yahoo! Weather for iPhone," Rossiter wrote.

All these implemenations are the reflection of the new CEO Marissa Mayer's vision to "make the world's daily habits inspiring and entertaining."

She has addressed the importance of mining information about users to closely tailor online content and target money-making advertising.

Despite all these efforts, Yahoo's revenue decreased 7 per cent year-on-year, and display ad revenue dropped 11 per cent.

On the other hand, Yahoo has created a new weather app for Apple's iPhone that will show current temperatures and forecasts on top of slideshows featuring pictures of landmarks and other scenery in the cities chosen by a user.
