Obama junks meeting with Philippines' Duterte after harsh remarks

This after Duterte used foul words when asked how he would answer Obama if he will raise clarifications on the reported extrajudicial killings in the Philippines.

Earlier, the ABC News quoted President Obama saying, "If and when we have a meeting, this is something that's going to be brought up."

He added that he would certainly address the need to approach the drug trafficking war in a "way that is consistent with basic international norms."

But Duterte said Obama must refrain himself from intervening in the affairs of his country, highlighting the sovereignty of the Philippines and its people especially on domestic issues.

"Putang ina, I will swear at you in that forum," said Duterte referring to the U.S. President. Putang ina is a Tagalog phrase meaning "mother f---."

Hours after the sour remark, U.S. National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said Obama would no longer meet with Duterte.

The two leaders are supposed to meet Tuesday.

"Obama will not be holding a bilateral meeting with President Duterte of the Philippines this afternoon. Instead, he will meet with President Park of the Republic of Korea," said Price in a statement.

The Philippine President was known for his notorious outbursts, including labelling the US ambassador to Manila a "gay son of a whore", telling the Catholic church "don't fuck with me", and accusing the UN of issuing "shitting" statements about his anti-drugs policies, according to The Guardian.
