Paul Ciancia Update: LAX Shooter Scheduled For Court, Facing 11 Federal Counts

The man suspected of opening fire at Los Angeles International Airport in November, killing a Transportation Security Adminstration (TSA) screener and wounding three others, is set to be arraigned on Thursday, ABC News reported.

Paul Anthony Ciancia, 23, faces 11 felony charges including murder and three attempted murders. He is expected to enter a plea for all of them during arraignment at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, where he has been staying since after his arrest.

A date for trial may also be set on Thursday.

Earlier this month, Ciancia appeared in court inside the Rancho Cucamonga jail where he was denied bail from U.S. Magistrate Judge David Bristow. He did not enter a plea.

According to authorities, Ciancia planned to kill more than one TSA employee during his Nov. 1 rampage through the airport. Officials believe he held a grudge against the agency though are not certain of what set him off.

In the attack, TSA officer Gerardo Hernandez was killed. Additionally, two other TSA officers and a passenger were injured.

The coroner's autopsy reported Hernandez, 39, was hit with a dozen bullets. He became the first TSA employee to die in the line of duty.

Following a gunfight with Ciancia, which wounded him four times, authorities arrested him. The indictment in the case accuses him of "substantial planning and premeditation to cause the death of a person and to commit an act of terrorism."

If convicted, Ciancia could face the death penalty. However, prosecutors have not said whether they will seek that as punishment.
