'Descendants of The Sun' news: Song Hye Hyo and Song Joong Ki will Not Reprise Their Roles in Season 2

"Descendants of the Sun" became one of the most watched show in 2016 not just in South Korea but also in several other part of Asia. This military drama featured a love story between Captain Yoo Si-Jin and Doctor Kang Mo-Yeon, played by Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, respectively. However, there have been new reports suggesting that season 2 will feature a new lead couple.

According to a report by Morning Ledger, even though fans would love to see their favorite lead couple in the second season, the update indicates that a new lead couple will take over in the next season. Now that Lee Eung Bok, the previous director, has resigned from the show, the hopes of seeing the "DOTS" former couple sizzling the screen again are really slim. In fact, even the series' main writer, Kim Eun Sok, has also resigned from KBS network.

As the fans wonder if there will be any similarities between season 1 and season 2, many fans are speculating that the show will now focus on the second lead couple from the first season, Lieutenant Yoon Myung-Joo (Kim Ji Won) and Sergeant Seo Dae-Young (Jin Goo).

Now that so many key players have parted ways from the show, the fans wonder if there will be a season 2 at all. KBS already said in April that they will have a discussion about the second season and said that nothing has been finalized yet.

"We are creating the second 'Descendants of the Sun,'" Jung Sung-hyo, head of KBS's drama department said. He also added that they wanted to release the show in 2017, without sharing anymore details about the cast. "We can't say they are in for certain because actors don't make such decisions until they read the script," he said.
