Stephen Whitcomb was one of the first to respond to a car accident on Christmas Eve without knowing his daughter was the victim of the tragic traffic accident, NBC News reported.
The accident occurred in the town of Brookline in New Hampshire on Tuesday morning when Katie Hamilton, 30, was on her way to work after dropping off her three children at their grandparent's house, according to NBC.
Whitcomb Hamilton's father is a 20-year volunteer and veteran of the fire department in Brookline where the accident occurred and Hamilton lived, according to NBC.
The crash occurred around 9 a.m. when Hamilton was driving south on Route 13 about to make a left turn on Route 130 when another car hit her from behind, throwing her into oncoming traffic where she was struck by another vehicle, Brookline police reported, according to NBC.
Hamilton was driving a 2006 Ford Explorer and was hit by 2009 Toyota Tundra pickup due to the drivers not paying attention, officials reported, according to NBC. The second vehicle that hit her car was a 2004 Ford F250.
Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene but the passengers in the Tundra and Ford trucks were injured, according to NBC.
Brookline Police Chief William Quigley released the driver of the Toyota Tundra as Greg Cullen, 31, and stated neither alcohol or speeding caused the him to back-end Hamilton's car, but added that "driver inattentiveness" was a likely cause, NBC reported.
The Hillsborough County Attorney's Office said they are still investigating the crash and have yet to determine if any criminal charges will be made, NBC reported.
"She would help us with our fundraisers and would do anything for anybody," Brookline Fire Chief Charles Corey told NBC News on Thursday. "She would always help us. If we had a big call, she would later come down and bring food for us."
Hamilton is survived by her husband Liam and her three daughters aged between two and nine, NBC reported.
