With the record-breaking success of the phenomenal Train to Busan, lead actor Goong Yoo revealed that he asked director Yeong San-ho to film a sequel to the apocalyptic movie.
In a recent interview with South Korean local network Sports Chosun, as cited by Health Aim, Gong said, "I talked about this with director Yeon Sang-ho. I said that I thought my character Seok-woo might be living somewhere as a zombie, but director Yeon said that when Seok-woo fell off the train, he broke his neck and died."
Recent reports have been speculating about the possible sequel to the film following its blockbuster success, garnering $10 million in South Korea alone. The 37-year-old actor has been teasing the fans with the return of Seok-woo in Train to Busan 2 as one of the undead.
The director, however, has different plans in mind. As per the report of Movie News Guide, Director Yeon asserted that Seok-woo is gone for good after he fell off the train.
There have been reports circulating online about the competition of US and France's production houses for the remake rights of Train to Busan. Along with 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures, France's Gaumont, Canal Plus, and EuropaCorp are showing interest in the remake.
In a report of The Hollywood Reporter, Contents Panda senior manager Danny Lee who's handling the international rights division of Train to Busan said that the company and the producers are in no rush to make deals. Lee added that the French are highly interested in remaking the film, saying that, "There seem to be more ways for French filmmakers and audiences to relate to the story, because bullet trains are a big part of daily life there, as in Korea."
