Ever wonder how Pokémon Go Plus works? Niantic got you covered

The Pokémon GO Plus is a small device that lets you enjoy Pokémon GO while you're on the move and not looking at your smartphone.

The device connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth low energy and notifies you about events in the game-such as the appearance of a Pokémon nearby-using an LED and vibration.

The Pokémon GO Plus will begin to blink and vibrate whenever you're within range of a PokéStop. Press the Pokémon GO Plus button to search the PokéStop for items. If you find any items, they'll immediately be added to your inventory.

When a Pokémon is near, the light on the Pokémon GO Plus will flash. It will also flash and vibrate when you pass a PokéStop.Once a Pokémon is close, press the button on the Pokémon GO Plus to throw a Poké Ball. The Pokémon GO Plus will flash and vibrate to let you know if you were successful in catching the Pokémon.

Niantic has announced that the latest version of Pokémon Go (version 0.37.0 for Android; 1.7.0 on iOS) is rolling out. Among the new features being added are the eagerly anticipated Buddy Pokémon system, as well as support for the Pokémon Go Plus accessory, which actually looks like it's going to launch at some point this decade. On the way out is support for jailbroken/rooted devices - Niantic has confirmed that the game will not support modified operating systems, as it looks to continue to crackdown on bots, scrapers, and other forms of (what it deems to be) cheating in the game. There was also a big reveal at the Apple Watch 2 launch, where we learnt that Apple's latest wearable will be the first smartwatch to support Pokémon Go - and there'll be full integration with the device's activity tracking features so you can see how chasing cartoon monsters is helping your fitness.

The latest iteration of Pokémon Go also takes something away - the ability to play the game on jailbroken and rooted devices. As part of its ongoing efforts to rid the game of 'cheating', namely bots and scrapers, Niantic has confirmed that hacked phones are not supported by Pokémon Go. What's important to note, though, is that the developer isn't banning or deleting accounts from rooted devices - if you've jailbroken/rooted your phone but play the game legitimately, you could be fine.
