Two men were arrested in the death of Eva Casara, the pregnant teen who was shot and killed in Chicago on Christmas Day, Fox News reported.
Casara's 16-year-old boyfriend, Anthony Lee, and his brother, Diante Lamont Coakley, 21, were charged with first-degree murder in what authorities believe resulted from a drug deal gone wrong.
The 17-year-old girl was five months pregnant when she was killed. First responders rushed the pregnant teen to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she died the next morning. However, doctors were able to save her baby, born at 1 pound and 5 ounces.
According to Dolton Police Chief John Franklin, Casara was "just in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong company."
As the Chicago Sun-Times reported, the police chief did not provide many other details though he did say authorities are searching for a third suspect in the case.
Officials believe Lee and Coakley began firing their guns after a drug deal "spiraled out of control," eventually leading to Casara getting hit. While Franklin said the pregnant teen was not a target, he did not say her death was accidental.
"It's hard to call it an accident when you're firing a gun in the direction of people," Franklin said. "Our information is that all of the subjects charged were firing in the direction where she was hit."
Authorities added they believe Casara was moved after she was shot, left outside in the snow between two homes.
Melody Vargas, Casara's aunt, said her niece was never involved with drugs and presumed the girl's boyfriend was involved from the star.
"She was just a victim of their stupidity, and they need to pay for it," said Vargas, 36. "He was the last person she was with that day. We were looking in his direction."
"She was in love with him, and he was in love with her," Vargas added. "She was getting excited" about the baby.
