SanDisk announces world's first 1TB SD Card

Say hello to the new SanDisk SDXC Card that holds a storage that is probably larger than your laptop's. The new SanDisk 1 TB SDXC Card, by Western Digital Corporation, was introduced at the world's leading trade fair for photo and video professionals in Cologne, Germany.

According to reports, the company said that it is indeed necessary to have the 1 terabyte card because of the growing demand for high resolution format, like 4k and 8k footage, 360-degree video and Virtual Reality use.

The company released its SanDisk 512GB Extreme Pro SD back in 2014. It was the biggest that time. Moreover, they released the 64MB card 16 years ago, which was still impressive then. Today things just got extremely innovated as users can now able to store thousands of files on their gadgets with the 1 terabyte storage.

Dinesh Bahal, vice president, product management, Content Solutions Business Unit at Western Digital, shared his thoughts about the new SDXC card:

"Showcasing the most advanced imaging technologies is truly exciting for us. Sixteen years ago we introduced the first SanDisk 64MB SDTM card and today we are enabling capacities of 1TB. Over the years our goal has remained the same; continue to innovate and set the pace for the imaging industry. The SanDisk 1TB SD card prototype represents another significant achievement as growth of high-resolution content and capacity-intensive applications such as virtual reality, video surveillance and 360 video, are progressing at astounding rates."

SanDisk stated that in order for professional videographers and photographers to avoid the nuisance of changing cards every time they make memory-heavy files, this 1 terabyte card is a solution, which also expands them the possibilities of creating videos and photos with the highest quality content.

As of this moment, the new SanDisk 1TB SDXC card is still in the prototype stage and news of possible release date of the product has not yet been announced.
