If there is one feature that MacOS Sierra will exemplify in the long run, it would definitely be associated with Optimized Storage. Mac's new operating system provides a list of fascinating things to do which include seamless integration to all iOS decices, connecting Siri to the Mac and organizing photos based on life events.
Optimized Storage may not sound much compared to the other cool features but this part of the system is essentially what keeps the computer and the rest of its components hum with efficiency. The fact that hundreds of gigabytes can be freed in just a few clicks can automate a tedious PC to run tasks effectively.
An initial look at Siri's capability makes one wonder if indeed this digital feature can work well with the new operating system. Here's how it goes. If Siri is the personal assistant, Optimized Storage is the custodian. The iPhone's digital buddy complements MacOS Sierra in the background. A Reduce Clutter option is also in place to ask the user which files will be obliterated.
It should be noted that the operating system will automatically clean Apple app caches but not third party ones, Apple temp files, duplicate downloads in Safari and fonts, languages including dictionaries which are not being used.
The moment an upgrade to MacOS Sierra has been made, navigating through a couple of menus is definitely a must considering that Optimized Storage is buried pretty deep. One has to click on the Apple icon on the top left corner of the finder and proceed to About this Mac. Then go to the Storage tab and finally into the Details.
The 10.12 update or the Golden Master version of the Sierra introduces a better iCloud integration which allows users to retrieve records saved from one supported device using any of the other Apple devices. It also includes the addition of support for storing Microsoft OneDrive credentials in keychain.
Tuning into the iCloud options will allow the Mac to identify files that were unused or unopened for a long time. These records will be directed to the iCloud for storage without changing their locations on the Mac. The best thing about this is that, files will be in the iCloud for the long term without necessarily taking up space on the Mac.
