Good Morning American broadcaster Robin Roberts made a public revelation after revealing her long-time girlfriend in a Facebook post.
On Sunday, Roberts wrote a flashback message in Facebook expressing her heart-warming gratitude for making it through the year.
She began her post talking about the past, the future, and the present before she made the revelation: “If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present.”
“At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude.
“I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health.
“I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life.
“I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together.”
In 2012, Roberts, also a former sports anchor for local TV and radio stations was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a disease of the bone marrow. Sometime in that year’s third quarter, she underwent bone marrow transplant.
While she did not give her girlfriend's last name, People.com believes that Roberts is referring to Amber Laign, a professional and licensed massage therapist from the San Francisco Bay area.
According to the site, Laign “has a private practice specializing in patients recovering from injuries” and that the couple has been together for a decade now after meeting through common friends.
Meanwhile, Roberts Facebook post has received mixed reactions from the public. Some were inspired and happy that she finally came out of the closet but there are still a few who couldn’t help but bash.
