No Man's Sky is a remarkable achievement. It wasn't easy for Hello Game's small development team to create an incredible universe with over 18 quintillion possible planets and large scale of possibilities for exploring and discovering. Many people say that those facts speak volumes of Hello Games.
No Man's Sky have reached for the stars but there are gamers who are saying that "it is the fundamentals on the ground that are lacking". When you add frustrating bugs and issues to that, the sense of a "wow" moment when you break the clouds for the first time and reach all the stars and planets that are waiting for you to visit, explore, and pillage will quickly fade. Is this video game live up to the hype? Well, it depends.
We all know that No Man's Sky has been surrounded by much more hype and expectation than Olympic Games. For years, fans of SF video games have their speculations about what the game is, how it looks like and stuff like that. Hello Games and Sony are partly responsible for that hype, but so are we. After watching every new trailer, we developed our own interpretations, expectations, and demands. Now we can finally see what this game actually is and know for sure.
No Man's Sky gameplay features
If you love science-fiction, have a vivid imagination and overwhelming sense for an adventure, No Man's Sky is the right video game for you. Playing this game, you can explore an infinite universe and discover unique planets and never-before-seen flora and fauna. The great arcanum lies at the center of the galaxy and will draw you on an epic journey of discovering the real nature of the cosmos.
Your expedition will be loaded with danger, coming across hostile species and brute space pirates. So, if you want to survive, you need to prepare properly, upgrade your suit and shield, weapons, and ship. Whether your choice is to explore, trade or fight, every single your decision will have consequences and shape your voyage as you ramble even deeper into No Man's Sky gameplay.
If you (by any chance) have the opportunity to be the first person to discover a certain planet or species, you have the honor to name it. That new name for the planet or creature cannot be inappropriate because Hello Games has put filters to in preventing it.
The reasons to avoid No Man's Sky and technical problem with the game
It can happen that you spend few hours cheerfully hopping from planet to planet, adapting your suit to deal with the cruel climates out there. Then you probably will start exploring far and wide and scanning every single thing you come across. Everything is just great and joyful until the patterns start to appear and then you realize that the core mechanics you have are incredibly basic. That fact can be very disappointing and be the main reason why many gamers say that No Man's Sky is just another mediocre video game and nothing more.
There are many planets within No Man's Sky and each of them should have a different scenery and different flora and fauna. Thay really looks gorgeous from the distance but up close textures look a bit blurry. Of course, with over 18 quintillion possible planets, you cannot expect that every of them is truly unique.
No man's sky PC video game sometimes has the tendency to crash while you try to go to a new solar system. That can be pretty frustrating because the game has specific save points, and, from time to time, you must go back to your space station, craft your energy cells and try to get back to the solar system once again. The game's instability surely can dull your excitement and desire to proceed further that you had in the first few hours.
Version and supported platform
No Man's Sky PC has released at 12 August (Worldwide) and the for PS4 two day earlier in UK and Europe. It's unlikely that No Man's Sky Xbox One version will be released, but I think that could change in the future. Currently, the Mac version is also looking like a long shot, but I have heard some rumors about it. When we are talking about rumors, it appears that we maybe can expect that the game will be available for VR. When I had read the Games Radar, Sean Murray, the creator, has hinted it by saying:
"I don't know what I'm allowed to say." It's something we're thinking about. Morpheus, Oculus... There's nothing more cool and sci-fi than VR and a big procedural universe. I think that, for the people who want to just explore, and even for the space combat and things like that, it would be a good fit. Let's put it that way."
Judge for yourself if those expectations are possible to be fulfilled.
Final thought
No Man's Sky is a great game. The vision of creating a limitless universe on a scale unseen in the world of video games has been achieved. No doubt about that. This game will surely give everyone who plays it something very interesting and unique.
However, the basic gameplay isn't deep enough or rewarding for everybody to stick around and explore all those planets. Having such fundamental combat and inventory management, it can quickly give you the feeling that you're dragging yourself trough systems searching for Atlas.
Did No Man's Sky justified expectations? If you have been following this game for years, it probably didn't. But for everyone who will appreciate this game for what it is - a technical wonder, which will greatly improve in the near future - then there is surely going to be plenty of fun and wonder for the gamers who love science-fiction games with lots of opportunities for exploring.
Let me try 1.09 update for PS4 and see for myself if bugs that game has are really fixed like people from Hello Games promised.
