A Florida man fatally shot his estranged wife in front of his daughter at an Applebee's restaurant on Sunday night, WTEV reported.
Sheridan Veney, 44, is being charged with murder after allegedly opening fire around 8 p.m. in front of an estimated 40 diners.
Sara Phillips said she had just finished an appetizer when she heard someone scream "Get down!" She also said about half of the customers crawled through the kitchen to safety. However, other patrons allegedly detained the man until authorities arrived.
Officials said Veney waited at the restaurant until police arrived and admitted to killing his wife.
His estranged wife was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead later that evening. She was eating at the restaurant with their 18-year-old daughter, who reportedly said "My dad just shot my mom" as she ran out crying.
Their daughter, who was visiting Florida from North Carolina, serves in the military.
The investigation is ongoing.
In August, two men were shot outside of another Applebee's location in Florida during a robbery. Following the frightening incident, Applebee's director of operations in North Florida and South Georgia said they planned on adding 20 extra security cameras within the next few days.
