Britney Spears' Las Vegas residency show "Britney: Piece of Me" is reportedly off to a rocky start. According to the New York Daily News - and some fans - the 32-year-old singer lip-synced her way through a couple of her songs.
The Daily News reports that Spears mouthed along to the tracks for "Womanizer" and "Perfume." Her management denies the claims. In September, the newspaper ran a story claiming that Spears was planning on lip-syncing during a large majority of her two-year residency in Vegas. Her team said the story had "zero truth" to it promising fans that the pop star would be performing live.
However, the Daily News isn't the only ones to notice Spears lip-syncing to her hit tunes.
"The singer appeared to be lip-syncing for the majority of her performance," reported the Los Angeles Times. "That went for high-energy dance numbers such as 'Womanizer' as well as slower-paced ballads like 'Perfume,' for which Spears took a seat onstage."
"There were many parts in the show where unfortunately, the vocals did sound exactly like the vocals from her albums, which all true Britney fans know because we've all listened to them a million times," reported BuzzFeed. "But it's like, you don't really go to a Britney show to hear her sing, right? It's almost like she's the only one who can get away with it because she's a living legend and American icon."
Sources told the Daily News, that the "Toxic" singer is making around $15 million a year for a total of 96 shows. Her Sin City residency officially kicked off on Friday to a packed house at the Axis Theater but there are reportedly concerns about future ticket sales. A source told the newspaper that sales have been "disastrous."
"What everyone here is worried about is, once fans wake up to the fact they are being cheated, they won't come to the show," the source said. "People are going to start asking, 'Why am I paying all this money to see Britney lip-sync?' No one likes being exploited."
However, her team is denying rumors that she is lip-syncing and says the sales are nothing to be worried about.
"Britney is killing it in Vegas, and Caesars execs are ecstatic with the launch," her rep. Jeff Raymond said in a statement, the Daily News reports. "The show is a major commercial success. End of story."
