Applebee's, the chain restaurant where $20 can get you dinner and an appetizer for two people, and the most expensive dish on the menu appears to be a $28 steak, is now offering a $375-a-person New Year's Eve "Night to Remember."
A restaurant that's never likely had anyone spending even close to $400 at Applebee's has come up with this event. The chain's Times Square outpost is now expecting people to pay $375 for a New Year's evening, the Wire reported.
"The party, which starts at 8 p.m. and wraps up at midnight, features an extensive buffet, a 'premium' open bar, a house DJ, a dance floor, plus party favors galore. And for those eager to see the ball drop, the restaurant lets patrons "make their way to the streets of Times Square," said Zane Tankel, who heads up all 38 Applebee's restaurants in the New York metro area.
The Applebee's upgrades include stuff like a DJ and open bar, according to Marketwatch. Part of the strategy is to make people think they're not at Applebee's, the Wire reported.
"You wouldn't know you were at an Applebee's for that one night," Tankel said.
Since an unwritten rule to New Year's Eve involves having some undertone of terribleness to it, mingling with Applebee's patrons might not seem so bad of an idea. According to the Wire, here are some more parties offering similar deals:
