Last year, Samsung promised at CES that it would be delivering a 110-inch Ultra HD TV this year, and with just a few days left to spare, the company has finally unveiled the finished product. It is apparently rolling out in China, the Middle East and European countries first for $152,000 according to The Associated Press.
Samsung's 110-inch TV, the largest in the world according to Mashable, has four times the resolution of a standard high-definition TV and is going on sale for about $150,000 in South Korea.
So far very little is known about the device other than its OLED UHD display. Last year, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, the world's top two TV makers, moved forward with ultra HD TVs as manufacturing bigger screens with an OLED display proved far too costly, despite both companies hailing OLED technology as the future.
According to the AP, demand for U-HD TVs is expected to increase despite the dearth of content. Its price will likely come down faster than that of the OLED TVs that proceeded it. Much of the growth is expectd to come from China, a major market for the South Korean TV makers.
Chinese TV makers have been exploring the technology in an attempt to boost sales by making lower-cost U-HD TVs with a lower price and a smaller size, Samsung's strategy seems to be to go bigger, bigger than anyone else can. With a higher price tag, Samsung's 110-inch TV measures 2.6 meters by 1.8 meters. It will be available in China, the middle East and Europe. In South orea the TV is priced at 160 million won, $152,000.
