Oregon (10-2) dropped two of its last four games to close out the regular season. After losses to Stanford and Arizona, the Ducks were knocked out of contention for a spot at the BCS championship.
Oregon's offense was led by a potential future first-round NFL draft pick, quarterback Marcus Mariota. The sophomore signal caller threw for 3,412 yards, 30 touchdowns and just four interceptions; he added 582 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.
Mariota's mobility under center, along with the presence of dynamic receiver Josh Huff, opened the rushing game up for running back Byron Marshall, who has 995 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. Running back Thomas Tyner also took a chunk of the carries and ran for 689 yards and nine touchdowns.
Despite his numbers and performance, Mariota intends to play another year at Oregon.
"It is an honor to be a student at the University of Oregon and to have the opportunity to represent our institution on the football field alongside my teammates," Mariota said, via ESPN. "I look forward to earning my degree next year and to the rest of my career at this great university."
Texas (8-4), meanwhile, will be playing for the last time under coach Mack Brown. Brown announced his resignation earlier in December amid a flurry of rumors linking several high-profile coaches to the Longhorn job.
"I felt like I could stay," Brown said of his tenure in Austin. "I really felt like it wasn't best for the university to stay. It's been a wonderful ride. Now, the program is again being pulled in different directions, and I think the time is right for a change."
