"Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 is slated to air in 2017. But Song Jong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo will not appear in the new season, according to reports.
Will the "Cinderella and the Four Knights" actor Jung Il-Woo join the cast?
Jung Il-Woo already announced his intention to similar role like Song Joong-Ki during an interview with "Showbiz Korea" talk show, as reported by Soompi.
He said that he wanted to play a role that suit his age like the role of Captain Yoo. Jung also looked forward to a more challenging role in an action flick.
Jung is now starring in the tvN drama "Cinderella and Four Knights" with top class actor Ahn Jae Hyun and actress Park So Dam. Two members of Korean idol groups also star in the drama, Apink's Son Naeun and CNBLUE's Lee Jung Shin.
"Descendants of the Sun" is one of the most famous K-Drama this year, both domestically and internationally. It has gained an average of 28.4 percent in viewership rating all across Korea since it first aired on Feb. 24. Aaccording to its production house Next Entertainment World, the drama has also been exported to 32 countries.
In April this year, chief of KBS 2 drama department, Jung Sung Ho told Naver that the TV station began to negotiate new term of contract for the cast members of "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2.
"KBS aim to produce 'Descendants of the Sun' Season 2 to meet viewers' expectation. We plan to air the new season in 2017," he said.
He also admitted that the burden of "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 is much bigger because of success of the "Descendants of the Sun."
Following the success, its cast members received many contracts such as lead actress He-Kyo, who became the model for Shilla Duty Free Korea.
