Netflix is bringing a new monthly plan for single screen viewers starting at $6.99, a dollar off its regular pricing, but only in standard definition.
Video streaming service Netflix is offering new customers a monthly streaming plan for only $6.99 that allows viewers to watch content in standard definition only on a single screen. The new Single User plan is $1 lesser than Netflix's regular $7.99 monthly plan, which offers simultaneous viewing on two screen in high definition.
The latest move comes after Netflix realized that different customers have separate bandwidth needs. This plan is best suited for those who use lesser bandwidth. The new plan is being tested on a limited group of customers and the company is positive about rolling out the plan to a wider audience, a Netflix customer rep told AdWeek.
"We always are testing new things and this is a test for a $6.99 single stream plan," a Netflix spokeswoman said in a statement. "Not all people will see this option and it may not be something we ever offer generally."
Netflix offers other monthly plans that let viewers watch content on four screens as a part of a family package. The four screens bundle pack in HD or SD costs $11.99 per month.
Netflix has grown enormously in the recent months. According to media reports, Netflix and YouTube account for half of all peak-hour download traffic in the United States. Netflix announced recently that it has surpassed 40 million monthly subscribers, according to Tech Radar.
