Sony Xperia Tablet Z got an Android 4.3 Jelly Bean but only for its Wi-Fi models.
Sony is getting a long-overdue Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update to its Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra, the Xperia Tablets' Wi-Fi only model. The latest update is being rolled out to all tablets bearing model numbers SGP311 and SGP312. However, the update is only available via Sony PC Companion Suite or the Sony Update Service. No over-the-air notification will be pushed out.
The Sony Xperia Tablet Z will get all Android 4.3 features as well as additional Sony exclusive software modifications with the update. The tablet's firmware build will change to 10.4.B.0.577 along with a new home launcher, Sony Smart Social camera, "Xperia Theme" support, new battery Stamina mode and improved security features, as detailed in Xperia Blog, via GSM Arena.
Points to remember:
Users will have to download the 793MB update to get all the features. Before going forward with the upgrade, users must ensure few key points to avoid unexpected damage. Users must verify the model number, as the firmware update on a different variant can brick the tablet. The battery on the tablet should be at least 80 percent. This is to prevent power interruptions during the installation. Ensure the device is connected to a secure Wi-Fi network to avoid draining mobile data.
Previously, Sony Xperia Z, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra devices including LTE models have received the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update. It is still unclear how long it will take the Sony lineup to get the most recent Android 4.4 KitKat update.
Considering the update is only being rolled out to various flagship models of different companies, such as Motorola's Moto X, Google Nexus lineup, Google Play Editions of HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4, it will not be too late before KitKat hits Sony's flagship Xperia Z1.
