The official release date of "Outlander" Season 3 has been pushed to April 2017 due to different shooting locations.
"Waking the Dead" actor Wil Johnson will join the casts as Claire's friend. Starz Network has already released the official plot synopsis of the newest season.
According to iTech Post, lead actor Sam Heughan stated that the production is prolonged as the project requires to shoot in different locations. Because of that, the production team announced an extension before calling it a wrap.
TV Line reported that the English actor Johnson will play the role of Joe Abernathy. He is a doctor-in-training who will become Claire's friend in the medical school.
As for the official plot synopsis of "Outlander" Season 3, Starz Media Room notes, "Claire struggles with the fallout of her sudden reappearance and its effect on her marriage to her first husband, Frank."
Meanwhile, in the 18th century, Jamie suffers from the aftermath of his doomed last stand at the historic battle of Culloden, as well as the loss of Claire. As the years pass, Jamie and Claire attempt to make a life apart from one another, each haunted by the memory of their lost love.

As of now, the production of "Outlander" Season 3 is currently underway. The newest season premieres on April 1, 2017, first and exclusive on Starz Network.
