It looks like Eddie Alvarez, instead of Jose Aldo, will be facing Conor McGregor in his match on UFC 205 on Nov. 12 in his search of creating history.
McGregor is eyeing to become the very first man to have two world title belts under his name in two different UFC weight divisions.
This was something he started out to achieve earlier this year. But he failed when then-champion Rafael dos Anjos pulled out from their UFC 196 fight because of back injury in February.
This forced Nate Diaz to get involved in a non-title fight with McGregor. The Irishman was able to avenge his only UFC defeat after winning over Nate Diaz at their UFC 202 match last August, according to USA Today.
Eight months after the fight, Conor McGregor, who hailed from Crumlin, has again got his hands at making a history for himself and for UFC. His fight against Eddie Alvarez will become the key attraction at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.
UFC President Dana White revealed in an interview on ESPN, "This card has three world title fights and is the best card in UFC history. This is the fight the fans wanted and I'm excited that our very first event at Madison Square Garden will be headlined by Eddie Alvarez defending the lightweight title against Conor McGregor."
This is a highly anticipated match between Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez. The American, who remarkably knocked out Rafael dos Anjos to win his lightweight belt back in July, will mark UFC's first time hosting an event in New York City following the near-decade-long ban issued against professional MMA bouts.
New York banned professional MMA fights in 1997 as there were no unified rules in place that time.
