MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry released an apology to Mitt Romney and his family on Tuesday morning, after she poked fun at a photo of the ex-presidential hopeful's kin, including their newly adopted child Kieran, who is black.
"I am sorry," Harris-Perry wrote in a number of tweets addressing the on-air jabs. "Without reservation or qualification. I apologize to the Romney family."
Harris-Perry, a television host who specializes in African-American politics, posted the apology after the public responded with shock and offense toward her commentary on the Romney family photo.
During her Sunday show, Harris-Perry put up the picture on-screen: an image of Mitt Romney, his wife Ann and a crowd of 20 kids, including the recent addition to the family, Kieran.
Harris-Perry poked fun at the group of white faces surrounding the tiny black baby Mitt held in his arms. As the snapshot appeared, an off-camera jingle sang, "One of these things is not like the others. One of these things just isn't the same."
Harris-Perry then asked her guests to give the photo a caption, and made a comment about Kieran being a viable romantic option for North West.
"As [a] black child born into large white Mormon family I feel familiarity w/ Romney family pic & never meant to suggest otherwise," Harris-Perry wrote on Twitter.
