Less than 1 Pct of Facebook Users Downloaded Facebook Home, Is it a Failure so Far?

Just under a week following its release, Facebook Home has crossed the 500,000 mark for downloads on Google Play, but has a dismal rating of just two stars, suggesting the social network still has kinks to work through as users get adjusted to the app.

Facebook Home, the free-to-download app, effectively replaces the phone's home screen with a Facebook feed and chat options. It lets users catch up on through their news feed, read their notifications, and get other Facebook content right from their homescreen.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said it could "change the relationship" people have with their mobile devices.

Although the download figures are not dismal, they do pale in comparison to Instagram when they first launched on Android and hit over 1 million downloads in a day and 5 million downloads in a week.

Out of the 11,000 reviews left for the app on Google Play, many users mention issues with battery life and say that once Facebook Home is installed, widgets - which can be used on Android phones to customize other applications - no longer work.

Just over half of those rating the app gave it just one star, while about 1,800 gave it a top score of five stars.

One user wrote: "If you're someone who constantly wants to be in the loop with what's going on, then this is for you. She added that she was planning to uninstall it.

Facebook is the world's largest social networking site with over 1 billion monthly active users, suggesting that the number of Facebook Home users should be higher, given its large user base. Currently, only 0.05 percent of Facebook users downloaded Facebook Home.
