Chevrolet beats Tesla on e-car development

Tesla may have the highlight in the electric car, but apparently the traditional carmaker still has the expertise in industry. Based on the data, Chevy Bolt EV beats Tesla Model 3 in term of range and availability.

Chevrolet Bolt EV, the new electric car from General Motors, also proved to be more efficient than Tesla Model 3 in terms of price.

According to USA Today, Chevrolet Bolt reached 238 miles on a single charge while Tesla Model 3 is only expected to reach at least 215 miles per charge. Besides, Chevrolet Bolt will be available in the showroom before the end of this year while Model 3 will only be on sale next year.

Furthermore, according to UPI, Tesla Model 3 may not be available for public until 2018, another delay for Tesla.

Chevrolet Bolt is an electric car co-produced by Chevrolet and LG Korea. The car was designed by General Motor Korea as a crossover. It was introduced as a concept car in January 2015 during the North American International Auto Show. US EPA classified Bolt as small station wagon.

Alan Batey, president of GM North America, said the Bolt is a game changer for electric car segment in every aspect. He praised the development team as the car has been moving from design, production and market in a very short time.

"Chevrolet showed the world the production version Bolt EV earlier this year and in a few short months we've moved from that vision to a reality," Batey said in a statement.

Tesla has been plagued with delay in design and production of Model 3. Since 2013, the model has continuously undergo design change. Although Green Tech Media research showed that Tesla Model 3 will be able to cut off 300,000 barrels of daily gasoline demand in the U.S. by 2035, Tesla has not been able to deliver its car to the market in time.

Meanwhile, Chevrolet Bolt, with a price tag at about $37,500, will be the first choice of affordable electric car in the market.
