No. 4 Michigan State (12-1) takes on No. 5 Stanford (11-2) in the annual Rose Bowl. The Spartans haven't played in the Rose Bowl in 26 years, according to ESPN, which makes the game even more monumental for coach Mark Dantonio and his team.
"It's going to be a special moment when we walk out on that field," Dantonio said, via ESPN. "When you set down and write down your goals and think about the goals in whatever job that you take or occupation, you're going to have some different things that you want to try to accomplish. That was one of the things we were trying to accomplish."
The Spartans' only loss of the season came on Sept. 21 against Notre Dame. Dantonio's team bounced back from the 17-13 loss and strung together nine straight wins, including a 34-24 victory over Ohio State to close out the regular season.
Stanford, meanwhile, is looking for their second straight Rose Bowl trophy after defeating USC last year. Although some Cardinal players were part of last year's winning team, Stanford coach David Shaw knows nostalgia won't be an issue come Wednesday.
"Our guys have fond memories of it, but they've already started to say it: 'Last year was last year, and we have to prepare this year completely different,'" said Shaw. "Michigan State has been on a phenomenal run, tough competition, and has come to play every week. We know it's going to be a great game."
