Baylor (11-1) was handed its only loss of the season on Nov. 23 against Oklahoma State. The Bears bounced back from the 49-17 loss and won two straight games, including the Big 12 title against Texas, to close out the regular season.
"Now that we've established ourselves as Big 12 champions, like I told the freshmen earlier today, it's not like we've reached the mountaintop," Baylor coach Art Briles said, via ESPN. "We've still got a lot to reach for. We're at a good point in our program and now the duty is to maintain that."
Junior quarterback Bryce Petty led the offense with 3,844 passing yards, 30 interceptions and just two interceptions; he added 192 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground. Junior halfback Lache Seastrunk also contributed with 1,060 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.
Baylor's offense should get a boost with the expected returning of senior receiver Tevin Reese, who missed the last four games because of a dislocated wrist, according to ESPN.
"We're planning on having him back, and that's a big boost for him and us as a football team," said Briles. "It will definitely give us a boost offensively, because he's a guy that can scare a defense."
UCF also lost their only game early in the season. South Carolina handed UCF a 28-25 loss on Sept. 28, but the Knights responded by winning eight straight games to close out the season.
