The Rx 490 will be a part of AMD's next generation graphics processing unit (GPU). Contrary to what has been rumored earlier, the Radeon card will come out in the first half of 2017.
In a recent investor presentation, a couple of essential points have been revealed by the California-based semi-conductor manufacturing company. Primarily, it noted that the current GPU supports the Polaris design which runs on a 256 GB/s bandwidth. Included on this architecture are the RX 460, RX 470 and the RX 480. Secondly, AMD's promotional resources focus on the configurations of the Polaris 10.
If there is anything that these developments indicate, it will most certainly be about the future of the Radeon RX 490. The graphics processor will lead AMD's Vega hardware line next year.
According to GPU dealer Videocardz, specifications will include an array of heavy hitters. The computing power of the graphics processor is 9,830 GFLOPS which is higher than the 8,873 performance of rival NVIDIA's GTX 1080 Ti.
It will also have a 1200 MHz base clock to go with 16 gigs of vRAM. Based on the list, it will be absurd if the RX 490 will be running games below the 4K resolution.
The launching of the new Radeon Technologies Group (RTG) at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is a step toward the right direction. Division head Raja Koduri has tackled the future of the graphics processor.
Among the part discussed is the significance of content on the company's approach. The approach is a page taken from NIVDIA's sound strategy which leans on solidifying its relationship with developers. This is very true in gaming considering that hardware is further enhanced by creative approaches.
The involvement of Electronic Arts in the Star Wars Battlefront project is a manifestation of this. Furthermore, AMD is also adding influence in the Virtual Reality field by collaborating with companies like Liquid VR.
Koduri also plans to introduce a stronger graphics push with renewed focus on stable software. With the need to strengthen the company's architectural designs, the release of the 14nm/16 nm FinFET from Global Foundries will make AMD Radeon RX 490 highly competitive.
