A third man was charged on Wednesday for the murder of a pregnant Chicago teenager who was shot on Christmas day, CSN reported.
Darius D. Marshall, 19, of Dolton faces charges of murder and attempted armed robbery in the death of 17-year-old Eva Casara. Marshall's attorney, Stuart Goldberg, said his client surrendered to authorities on Monday.
Goldberg added that Marshall will appear in court on Thursday and will plead not guilty. He also claimed that Marshall was hiding following the days of Casara's death but was convinced to surrender.
"I feel like eventually he would have been caught under a potentially compromising situation, or circumstances, so I wanted him to be turned in under a controlled environment," Goldberg said.
Marshall's two brothers, Anthony Lee, 16, and Diante Lamont Coakley, 21, were already charged with first-degree murder. Lee was the teen's boyfriend and father of her baby, Lailani, who survived the shooting but is still listed in critical condition.
Police allege Marshall took Casara's body after she was shot and dumped her in an alley a few blocks away from the shooting, which occurred after a drug deal that "spiraled out of control."
Prosecutors believe that Marshall, Lee, Coakley, Casara, and possibly a fifth person had the intention of robbing someone that Casara arranged to meet with. Once Casara and Coakley met with the individual, they both got into the backseat of the person's car who eventually asked Coakley to leave.
Once Coakley left the vehicle, the driver allegedly drove away, prompting the three suspects to shoot at the car and hitting Casara in the head. Prosecutors say it wasn't until the driver and a passenger heard "gurgling sounds" that they remembered Casara was still in the car, dumping her out and driving off to Indiana.
Casara's body was discovered by a person walking by who called 911. She was rushed to Christ Hospital where she was eventually pronounced dead.
