Dallas Police Fatally Shoot High-Rise Resident After He Opened Fire Following Burglary Call

Dallas police fatally shot a resident of an upscale high-rise apartment after he opened fire on officers following reports of a burglary on Thursday, KWTX reported.

Authorities were not injured during the shootout that occured at the Glass House apartment complex, though it reportedly shattered several lobby windows.

According to Deputy Dallas police Chief Gil Garza, a 47-year-old male resident in the building told an employee that his apartment was being robbed. The employee then called police.

The resident then reportedly barricaded himself in a hallway near the lobby until police arrived and opened fire at them.

Officers are still unsure of why the unidentified resident said his apartment was being burglarized and then shot at officers, who returned fire that ended up killing him. Police say he began shooting after authorities tried to speak with him.

NBC 5 reported a witness that was across the stress as the incident occurred heard the resident shoot at least six shots at officers, which was returned by over a dozen shots by police.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Garza added the weapon the resident used was recovered from the scene. Further details on the incident were not available and the investigation is ongoing.
