Police in Baltimore identified the city's first two murder victims of the year -- a father and his son who were fatally shot on New Year's Day, Fox Baltimore reported.
Authorities said Frank Anthony Turner, 48, and Anthony Dionne Turner, 21, were shot by an unidentified person while walking in southwest Baltimore around 3 p.m.
Officers responded to the scene shortly after and rushed both victims to a nearby hospital. Both men suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and police mentioned one man was shot in the head.
The father was pronounced dead at 4:05 p.m., minutes after his son was pronounced dead at 3:50 p.m.
There are no possible motives and police have not released any description of the shooter.
Councilwoman Helen Holton, whose district includes the area where both men were killed, said she was "devastated" by the news.
"I just sent out an electronic newsletter in which I wrote that though we'd just been through a year with an uptick in murders, I was looking forward to a new year of greater peace for our city. This is just awful," she said.
Monique Washington, president of the Edmondson Village Community Association -- where the shootings occurred -- shared the same sentiment and emphasized that violence "concerns all communities, not just one."
"People want the community cleaned up, but don't want to put the work in," she said. "As a community leader who takes this to heart, it is sad to see individuals who feel the only solution is to take someone's life. I can only hope that 2014 is a better year."
