"Narcos" Season 3's release date is still pending, but fans cannot wait to find out how the newest episodes can live up to their expectations that are higher and higher with the time. The Hollywood Reporter asked the director Eric Newman to give his thoughts on the previous 2 seasons and ,of course, highly anticipated season 3.
The director gave an overview of how will the story go now when Escobar is dead. Newman said that looking back in the history of the cocaine in Colombia, what took place was natural. Cali was a big help in taking down the Medellin cartel but this was in their own interest too. After being number two for a long time, now they are on the top of the game.
The reason why showrunners named the show Narcos instead of Pablo Escobar is precisely because the story is about the history of cocaine, not just about the life of one individual. They wanted to tell a story about the war on drugs, and this is the main reason why they are continuing the series.
When Newman was asked how he feels about replacing Pablo Escobar with Gilberto (Damian Alcazar), he said: "We don't want to replace Pablo Escobar. We are going to look deeper into the systemic effects within Colombia of cocaine and corruption. Unlike Escobar, who had positioned himself as an outlaw, Cali was very much a part of the system. They had bought their way in and they enjoyed a different kind of protection than Pablo did. Pablo was protected by the people who loved him and Cali was protected by a political and economic system that they had rather ingeniously built. It's a different kind of villain. While Escobar was a single-cell organism, they were a complex, multi-celled organism."

Los Pepes Return
In the meantime, iTechPost reported that there are rumors about Los Pepes return. In the previous season, Cali used the said group to destroy Pablo Escobar and the Medellin cartel. After Escobar is gone, they dismissed. However, there were speculations that Los Pepes were restored by the Colombian government in order to give out intelligence reports about the drug lords' residences and the drug trade itself.
There are speculations that group will be infiltrated into the Mexican drug trade and that could be a perfect introduction to Mexico's El Chapo in "Narcos" Season 4.
These speculations haven't been confirmed so far. So, it's best to wait for the series' official confirmation before jumping to any conclusion. Fans of the show will get to see more of these guys when Netflix's "Narcos" Season 3 returns.
