Mobile phones released earlier in the market were not built in the same way as modern ones today. The mobile phone industry was not as sophisticated as seen in the current world, but it produced innovations that completely changed the world. The inventions in the early days are the main reasons why current smartphones used by people around the world are the way they are. This report shows three of the most significant mobile phones that shaped the game today.
Prototype Portable Radio telephone 1973
Dr. Martin Cooper from Motorola made a prototype of the portable radio telephone in April 1973. It is said that Dr.Cooper took three months to build the masterpiece. The prototype portable radio telephone weighed 1 kg and was built to compete with Bell Labs.
It is said that Dr. Cooper made his first call on the prototype to rival Joel Engel, head of research at Bell Labs in New York City on April 1973. That call is said to have inspired further innovations in the communication industry, though it's unknown as to how many pieces of the prototype potable radio telephone were built.
Motorola Dynatac 8000X - 1983
After the invention of the portable radio telephone, it took time for Motorola to build another mobile portable with a design team composed of Cooper and designer Rudy Krolopp. The first Motorola commercial portable telephone was named as Motorola DynaTAC. The acronym DynaTAC refers to DYNamic Adaptive Total Area Coverage.
Motorola's new commercial Motorola Dynatac 8000X was sold for USD 4000 in 1983 and was called as 'The Brick" because of its hefty weight of 1 lb. The mobile portable telephone built by Motorola was heavy, large, and expensive. This mobile phone has said to have turned the vision into a practical mobile phone.
