A woman from Baltimore accused of leaving her 4-year-old daughter unattended in a vehicle for eight hours has posted bail.
Alicia D Brown, 24, was arrested at the Maryland Live! Casino on New Year 's Eve for leaving a child unattended. She was charged with second-degree child abuse and neglect of a minor.
The police record stated that a security guard noticed the little girl crying in the vehicle. Asked if she was okay the 4-year-old answered "no" and said her mother had told her she would be right back. The little girl had been left in the car alone in frigid temperatures for over eight hours.
"Based on the investigation, the low temperature, the child's age and the obvious distress, medical personnel were summoned to the scene to check the child for injuries. The child was subsequently transported to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center for an examination. Just prior to transport, the mother of the child returned to the scene and identified the child as hers," Anne Arundel County Police Department (AACOPD) in Hanover, Md said, according to the Examiner.
Brown claimed that her 17-year-old cousin kept watch on her daughter.
According to the video footage, the police said that Brown left the SUV at 10 a.m. The girl was allowed to go with her grandmother after treatment.
Brown was arrested and a court commissioner put her under a $150,000 bond at the Jennifer Road Detention Center in Annapolis. She was released on Wednesday.
"Incidents of parental neglect and lack of personal responsibility are disturbing. We are thankful that our security team was able to intervene and get the appropriate authorities involved and that we found the child unharmed," casino's general manager, Rob Norton, said in a statement to the Baltimore Sun.
