Clemson (10-2) started the season with six straight wins before being blown out on Oct. 19 by Florida State, 51-14. The Tigers managed to string together another four consecutive victories before ending the regular season with a 31-17 loss to South Carolina.
While Clemson was unable to reach the BCS Championship, there's no denying the dynamic performance through the season of quarterback Tajh Boyd. The senior helmed the high-scoring offense and threw for 3,473 yards and 29 touchdowns; he added nine scores on the ground.
"I've been watching Tajh Boyd play for many years now and I think he's transitioned from a good player to a great player," Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said, via ESPN. "He's a dynamic thrower. And as with most excellent quarterbacks, his surrounding cast might be the best in America."
Meyer's Ohio State went undefeated through the first 12 games of the season before a stunning 34-24 loss to Missouri in the Big 10 Championship game. The loss was enough to drop the Buckeyes out of contention for a BCS Championship bid, something that the team said they have now put behind them.
"Obviously, we're not going to be where we thought we were going or where we wanted to be going, but we're playing in the Orange Bowl and that's a big-time bowl game," Ohio State offensive lineman Jake Mewhort said. "When you start going back to the coulda, woulda, shouldas, that's poisonous for a team. It's our job as leaders to look ahead and make sure everybody is doing their business."
