Vine is exploring new ways to entertain its users by designing a new website with full profiles that allows users to watch, like, revine and comment on different videos posted by others.
Twitter-owned Vine will now let users enjoy short videos through its newly introduced website. The looped video sharing app was only limited to mobile users, but after the announcement, web users can browse, watch, like, revine, share and comment on new and old videos posted by other users.
The new Vine website is an enormous upgrade from its previous simple landing page with a scroll-style feed and an automated TV mode. "You can also visit your favorite users' Vine profiles to browse the videos they've created since joining Vine. Plus, now you can share your profile with others so they can see your posts," Janessa Det, an engineer at Vine, wrote in the company's blog.
Vine website still allows users to stream an individual Vine video on the web, but the upgrade lets users stream through other users' accounts. The upgraded TV Mode plays videos in full screen automatically with no loops and no endless scrolling and stopping.
Vine is one of the top trending apps on smartphones. In August, Vine announced that it has surpassed 40 million users, up from 13 million in June.
Vine says the introduction of a website is only a "first step toward bringing you a richer, more enjoyable web experience" and promises to bring more features later this year. By improvements, the company may be hinting at supporting specific word search, hashtags and list of categories to explore, which is currently missing from the site.
The app is available for download on Google Play Store, iTunes, Windows App Store and Amazon Appstore for free.
