Fast Food chain Burger King, is taking its delivery service to three major cities—Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco, according to the Associated Press.
The delivery service made its first appearance in early 2012 in the nation’s capital, Washington D.C.
Since then, the service has hit metropolitan areas in Miami, Houston, and New York. This latest business move is one in many being made by major fast food chains across the country.
McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Wendy’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken, are all competing for customers nationwide. With the addition of up and coming food chains such as Chipotle and Panera, competition continues to grow.
The decision to deliver fast food is unprecedented in many parts of the United States. According to a spokesman from Wendy’s Denny Lynch, Wendy’s does not provide a delivery service anywhere in the U.S. McDonald’s has some delivery services around the country, but not at a major level.
Burger King’s delivery service, while gaining popularity, is also not on a major scale. Putting the delivery service in major cities could help the company, but so far, it's unknown if the new business venture will have the desired effect.
According to the company, approximately 20 restaurants in the Chicago and Los Angeles areas will offer the service. Fifteen restaurants in the San Francisco Bay area will also participate. Currently, the fast food chain has 13,000 restaurants in the world and 7,500 in North America.
The hours to place a delivery are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Customers must also place an order of at least $10 to qualify for delivery.
According to a representative for Burger King Worldwide Inc, delivery has propelled sales at restaurants that offer the service. However, the spokesperson did not give any further details. The fast food chain plans to expand the new business move based on consumer demand.
