Aspen Plane Crash Leaves At Least One Dead, Two Injured; Celebrities Live-Tweet Incident

A plane crash in Aspen, Colorado left at least one person dead on Sunday and was live-tweeted by celebrities who witnessed the frightening scene, NBC News reported.

According to witnesses, the crash at Aspen/Pitkin County Airport happened around 12:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. ET) and burst into flames upon landing.

One passenger died and two passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital, according to the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office.

"I just saw a huge plume of smoke," said witness Jay Sills. "I came around the corner and the plane was upside down, rocking back and forth, next to the runway."

Celebrities that happened to be in the airport took to Twitter to discuss their witness accounts as well.

"Horrible plane crash here at Aspen airport," comedian Kevin Nealon tweeted. "Exploded into flames as it was landing. I think it was a private jet."

"Fire trucks and other emergency vehicles still at scene. No word on survivors or who was on jet but I can't imagine there are survivors," the comedian later tweeted.

"So sad! Horrible plane crash we just saw happen at the Aspen airport," singer LeAnn Rimes tweeted.

The aircraft, a Bombardier Challenger 600, departed from Mexico and made a previous stop in Tuscon, Arizona. Pictures of the plane uploaded to various social media sites show it upside down, surrounded by firefighters trying to contain the flames.

The airport was closed following the incident.
