Xbox One vs. PS4: Microsoft Studios VP Compliments Sony and Nintendo on Next-Gen Success

Microsoft Studio boss Phil Spencer has demonstrated an act of humility by congratulating both of Microsoft's major console competitors; nothing that he thinks Sony has done well in successfully defining the PlayStation 4. He went on to praise Sony for committing to "new things and creative things."

In an interview with OXM, Spencer mentioned that he believes Sony has "done a nice job with the PS4."

"When I think about their announcement, their clear focus on a customer, leading with the value proposition of what they're trying to do, staying true to a vision, I think they've done a nice job in how they defined the PS4."

It's possible that Spencer is still reeling from Sony's major PR victory of Microsoft at last year's E3 gaming conference. Sony stayed true to its original model while Microsoft had to back pedal on a lot of its major new features. Now that the dust has settled and both consoles have had their respective successful launches, it seems that Spencer is over the mishap and is ready to pat Sony on the back.

He later went on to explain that he respects Sony's focus on "investing in new things and creative things."

"[W]hat they've done with David Cage and Quantic Dream around Beyond [Two Souls] and Heavy Rain; they stay committed to franchises even if they don't sell 10 million units, they'll stay committed to things," said Spencer.

The Microsoft studios vice president's kind words were not limited to just Sony.

"Nintendo, I think - and there's some argument about this - that their first-party is such an amazing asset," Spencer said. "Their first party studios and IP can lead what they do as a company and the platforms are almost in service to the IP - not in a bad way."
