Madonna Justifies Controversial Instagram Photo, Slams Critics

Responding to the criticism she received for posting a picture of her son with a bottle of alcohol, pop singer Madonna slammed critics asking them to "get a sense of humor!"

Pop singer Madonna found herself in some really hot water and sparked a huge controversy when she posted an Instagram picture of her 13-year-old son, Rocco Ritchie, holding a bottle of gin.

"The party has just begun! Bring it! 2014," the photo was captioned.

This didn't seem to go down well with the singer's millions of fans and followers, some of whom called the picture "tasteless." The backslash garnered more than 1200 comments in less than 24 hours.

"Booze is not something to make jokes about. Period!" one user wrote.

Another Madonna fan cautioned, "You gotta know what kind of signals it sends not only to her son, but also to kids around the world."

One reason for these responses could be the legal drinking age in the United States is 21 years, and even though the picture was taken in the Swiss Alps, in Switzerland, the legal drinking age there is 16 years.

There were a few people who came to Madonna's defense.

"Rocco is adorable and I think it's really cool that Madonna, and her family, post any pics. Madonna may be a worldwide icon, but she is human like the rest of us," a user reminded the singer's critics. "The picture is what it is. Let it be. Don't speak."

Madonna is not one to take criticisms lightly and reverted back to her critics through another posting on the social networking site.

"No one was drinking we were just having fun! Calm down and get a sense of humor!" Madonna wrote. "Don't start the year off with judgement!"

While other's may be questioning whether Madonna is a good mother and role model, son Rocco has no doubt that she is an excellent mother. In an episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that aired October, 2013, the young lad told the host what he thought of his mom.

"She's a good mother. Yes. That's all I have to say. She's very strict, but in a good way," PEOPLE magazine quoted Rocco as saying.
