Sony announced two new additions to its popular Xperia smartphone lineup; the Sony Xperia Z1s for T-Mobile and the Xperia Z1 Compact smartphone. Both smartphones offer the company's waterproof design with an incredible camera.
Sony will show off its two new additions to the popular Xperia smartphone lineup at the CES 2014 event in Las Vegas. One of the smartphones will be exclusive to T-Mobile users while the other one is yet to get an official release date in the global market. The higher model, the Xperia Z1s, is the T-Mo's version of the company's flagship Xperia Z1, with double storage space.
Sony Xperia Z1s features a 5-inch 1080p display, 2.2 GHz Qualcomm's quad-core processor with 2GB RAM. Like its identical version, Xperia Z1s runs Sony's customized build of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and a great 20.7-megapixel rear camera. The physical camera button lets users snap photos underwater, which did not appear in Sony's Xperia Z smartphone. The internal storage in the Xperia Z1s has been improved to 32GB, which is the only feature that sets Xperia Z1 and Z1s apart. Sony is also adding an "exclusive entertainment pack" with six free movies and 60-day Sony music trial, according to Sony.
Sony's second introduction to its Xperia lineup is a smaller version of the Xperia Z1. The company's Xperia Z1 Compact features a slimmed down frame size compared to Xperia Z1, but keeps the key features intact. The Xperia Z1 Compact features a 4.3-inch 720p display and is powered by 2.2 GHz Qualcomm quad-core processor with 2GB RAM. The phone is best suited for those who are looking at smaller phones with high-end features. The camera still offers 20.7-megapixels, NFC and the company's signature waterproof design. It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Sony's custom interface and a 2,300 mAh non-removable battery.
The Sony Xperia Z1s for T-Mobile will only come in black color option, whereas the Xperia Z1 Compact will sport three additional bright colors; lime, white and pink. T-Mobile will offer the higher model for $22 a month for 24 months to cover the total cost of $528. Buyers can order the Xperia Z1s online via T-Mobile's website starting January 13, and purchase from T-Mo's retail outlets from January 22.
The company is yet to announce the pricing and the availability of its Xperia Z1 Compact smartphone in the global market. It will debut on all leading carriers.
