Intel Security Replaces McAfee Brand Name, But Continues With Its Iconic Red Shield Logo

Intel revealed plans to replace the McAfee brand name with the company's own branding. The software giant will continue the security services and branch out in the mobile segment, carrying the iconic red shield logo.

Intel is phasing out the McAfee brand name from the popular internet security service after owning the company for over three years. Intel CEO Brian Krzanich announced at the CES 2014, Tuesday, that "Intel Security" will be the new brand name for McAfee Security, which has quite a prominent name in the cyber security industry for over two decades since John McAfee founded the company in 1987.

Intel's latest move hints at transforming the security services offered by McAfee. The California-based chipmaker is not ditching the iconic red shield logo and will continue to offer its services unchanged. In fact, Intel has bigger plans for the future of Intel Security, details of which remain sketchy at the moment. The rebranding begins immediately, but the complete transition will take up to a year.

"Intel is bringing its award-winning mobile security to every mobile device, phones, tablets, wearables," Krzanich said during Intel's keynote, CNET reports.

As a part of the big move, Intel also said that it would introduce new products. With more details to come over the next few months, the software giant is planning to make some components of the security feature free for mobile devices using Android and iOS.

"Digital security must be as pervasive as technology, across all devices and platforms. Phones and tablets now carry the same computing power and opportunity as desktop computers, and, therefore, the same vulnerabilities and exposure to digital crime," according to Intel Security. "We have a history of providing free mobile security for both Android and iOS devices. We intend to make a new mobile security solution freely available later this year with the goal of providing digital security to everyone on every mobile device around the world."

The mobile segment will be addressed with a new Intel Device Protection app that will make its debut later this year. The app will offer data and device security to iPhones, iPads and Android-based devices.
