Intel is entering the dual-booting PC market with its own version of Windows-Android-based Intel powered computers that can switch between the two operating systems with the press of a button.
Intel is making the most of the CES 2014 to show its promising plans for the year. With a slew of wearable tech gadgets and rebranding of McAfee Security at the CES 2014 keynote, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich confirmed a new line of Intel powered PCs that can switch between Windows and Android operating systems by simply pressing a button, according to The Verge.
The California-based chipmaker did not give away more details on the product, but Intel demonstrated the technology on a laptop after showing off its more exciting "Intel Device Protection Technology," which helps Intel-based Android devices meet higher security standards demanded by corporate organizations.
The dual-booting OS technology was already seen in June last year in the Samsung ATIV Q tablet-slider that runs both Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Windows 8 simultaneously. The device is powered by Intel's Core i5 processor and enables easy sharing between two operating systems with SideSync software. AMD also announced dual-OS technology, but slightly different from what Intel has to offer. The chipmaker partnered with BlueStacks to introduce the technology where Android runs within Windows. With this technology, users can launch Android based apps from Windows 8 Start Screen, just like launching a native Windows program.
While chipmakers, Intel and AMD offered the dual-OS boot systems at CES, ASUS also took the opportunity to show off its dual-booting Transformer Book Duet, just before Intel's announcement. With several companies joining the race to offer hybrid services to its users, the Windows and Android-based PCs are likely to get a boost this year.
